Hearts Of Clay; Poetic snippet..

Hearts Of Clay

They had hearts of clay and minds of steel,

They bent like rubber and thought like hammers,

They spoke of surface but felt of oceans,

They visited cities’ but dreamt of forests,

They drank the liquor but craved the spirits,

They foraged for wood but bought home technology,

They slept with dreams but awoke to nightmares,

They wished for peace but fought for war,

They wanted it all but had nothing left,

They believed the ego of mind, but not the intuition of the soul,

They are led towards the promised land, to which they end up eating from the left hand,

The steel beams are lined up for obedience, whilst the hearts made of clay are forced to dry, and turn to stone.

They no longer bend like rubber or think like hammers,

They now spoke of oceans and felt of surface,

They lived in cities because there were no forests,

They worshipped the dark spirits but now craved the liquor,

They used technology but wanted timber,

They lived in nightmares but dreamt of dreaming,

They obeyed the war within because peace didn’t exist,

They had nothing left because they had it all,

The intuition of the soul had successfully drowned in the ego of its culture,

They did not bite the hand that fed them, and thought the promised land had come to fruition,

The steel beams stood tall for obedience, whilst the hearts made of clay were now dead, set in stone.
